Helen Fielding - Bridget Jones's Diary (1996)
Bridget Jones is a single, thirty-two year old British woman. She drinks and smokes too much, and keeps a diary, in which she reminds herself that she should stop smoking, drink less and eat more vegetables. She's also obsessed with self-help books. Her main problem in life is men : she flirts with her boss Daniel, a womanizer who does not take her seriously; at the same time, her mother tries to fix her up with friend-of-the-family Mark, a wealthy barrister, who is as awkward and troubled as her… Here you can watch the beginning of the film adaptation, when Bridget and Mark meet with disastrous results at Una and Geoffrey Alconburry's New Year's Day Turkey Curry Buffet. Bridget is played by Renée Zelwegger and Mark by Colin Firth. |
